Chicago: A Winter Wonderland

Updated: Jul 5, 2021

There's nothing like experiencing the magic of the holiday season downtown Chicago. Everything feels a little brighter, a little warmer and a bit more wondrous. Check out our favorite sights and attractions below:

Macy’s State Street holiday windows

No holiday visit to Chicago is complete without visiting this essential holiday destination. Take in the imaginative holiday story as you stroll past artfully decorated storefront windows. Inside, you’ll find the Great Tree in the historic Walnut Room and floor upon floor of gift shopping.

CTA Holiday Train

From late November through December, various L lines are elaborately decorated with lights, bows and candy-cane stripes. You might even catch Santa and his elves handing out candy.

Chicago Botanic Garden’s Lightscape

Walk an immersive and awe-inspiring mile long-path full of multi-sensory light installations by artists from around the world. Lightscape is open on select dates from November 13th, 2020 to January 3, 2021. Make sure to purchase your timed ticked in advance!

City of Chicago Christmas Tree

Lighting up the heart of Millennium Park this winter is the City of Chicago’s Christmas tree. A 107 year tradition, this is a site not to miss.

ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo

Chicago’s historic Lincoln Park Zoo transforms each holiday season to a extravagant winter wonderland decorated with more than two million twinkling lights. Take in the sights with a warm spiced wine, craft bear or hot chocolate and snacks. Optional ticketed experience include the Enchanted Forest, Light Maze and pop-up bar, Snowy’s Spirits and S’more and more! This years festivities will be open on select dates from November 21st, 2020 to January 3, 2021. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance.
